About this deal

Richard Chizmar narrates the novel, with himself as the central male protagonist, using real people and places with a plot inspired by the Phantom Fondler.

This was especially the case with "Chapter One: The Town," which provides a detailed history of the town going back to colonial days and also includes random tidbits from the author's childhood, such as his house, favorite hangout spots, and even how many cracks are in certain sidewalks. Chizmar (in collaboration with Johnathon Schaech) has also written screenplays and teleplays for United Artists, Sony Screen Gems, Lions Gate, Showtime, NBC, and many other companies. Naked tree branches reached out as you walked past, skeletal fingers hungering for your touch, and packs of fallen leaves crunched beneath your wandering feet, their boundless brethren skittering past you in the chill autumn breeze like miniature ghosts haunting the landscape. Boogeyman” is structured as a true crime book written in 1st person perspective of the author, Richard Chizmar.Described as part memoir, part fiction that reads like TRUE CRIME, it is so believable that I kept thinking I misread something! I originally wanted to read this book because of the fact that Chizmar has co-written a book with the legendary Stephen King and even King himself said this was “genuinely chilling” and that’s all I needed to know. I may be a wee bit jaded after reading so many murder stories, and horror (much like humor) can be subjective. His magazine “Cemetery Dance” is now in its 32nd year of publication, and he also co-wrote Gwendy’s Button Box, with his friend, Stephen King. The character of the boogeyman was portrayed similarly to the Shape, Michael Myers, in that it didn't talk or make any noises where a normal human would react to pain being inflicted with pain.

I just find it so strange that it’s a fictional story that reads like true crime and the author is the main character.average rating on Goodreads and the majority of my friends have all loved this so please know that I am an outlier in my opinion. We believe every word, every interaction, even though Chizmar warns us at the start of the book that elements are fictionalised. Chasing the Boogeyman is an unflinching look at a real-life monster and the ordinary heroes obsessed with stopping him. I really liked to read true crime in my younger years, but as time went on I felt more and more guilty of having a few hours of "entertainment" at the cost of other people's misery, up to the point that I just quit the whole genre. This is a fictional book written like a documentary movie- a slow paced boring documentary that you regret watching.
