Cup anemometers - The simplest type of anemometer which is mounted on a pole and consists of a set of two, three or four spinning cups that blow in the wind. As the wind gets stronger, the cup formation spins faster, and the anemometer captures the speed of the airflow and displays it as a digital readout. But in the last century, there have appeared some more futuristic wind meters. From ultrasonic wind gauges to hot wire anemometers and doppler wind speed meters, which are often used in weather radar to measure the movement of air. The Importance of the Wind Speed Meter Now we have our Kestrel set up, how do we actually use it in the field? You can set the unit to work in one of two preferred ways, either as a stand-alone weather station and ballistic solver, or you can LiNK it with a compatible device, smartphone, tablet or rangefinder and run the ballistic solver via the secondary device.

All measurements except those based on relative humidity respond accurately within 1 second. Relative humidity and all measurements which include RH in their calculation may require as long as 1 minute to fully equilibrate to a large change in the measurement environment. Display updates every 1 second. Once you have chosen your gun/bullet name, press the down arrow and again highlight MV. If you need to, you can obtain your MV from the box that your ammunition came in, but this will only be a very rough approximation.
